Why do Artist Applications Require Sample Submissions?

We require sample submissions for a variety of reasons. Experience has shown us that many people who are not actually artists will try to sign up for artist account — mostly in order to share the contents of their porn storage folders with others because they think hArtists is nothing more than a dump for adult art. Requiring sample submissions gives us a convenient way to get rid of those people because we do not want them here; hArtists is more than a porn dump.

Secondly, we are selective about the people we hand out artist accounts to. There are only so many resources available and we thus favor artists who can draw well and don't limit themselves to drawing fan art. There are also so a few rogue "artists" (if you want to call them that) that simply trace and modify others' works. Requiring sample submissions allows us to make sure that such people don't get an artist account or get it revoked after a very short time.

If you can draw reasonably well and do not use primitive image manipulation programs like Microsoft Paint, you will probably not have to worry about the quality of your sample submissions because you will most likely get accepted if you apply for an artist account. We don't only look at quality. If we can see that you have potential and will improve over time, we'll be more than happy to give you an artist account.
