You can request read receipts for private messages by clicking on "Request read receipt" in the "Advanced Settings" menu when composing a private message. You'll only receive one if the recipient agrees to send you one though.

How do I Add a New Weblog Entry?

First open the "Manage My Weblog" page by going to your userpage and clicking on "Toolbox" and then on "Manage My Weblog" in the menu that pops up. After the weblog manager has fully loaded, you can immediately start typing your new entry.
