You can request read receipts for private messages by clicking on "Request read receipt" in the "Advanced Settings" menu when composing a private message. You'll only receive one if the recipient agrees to send you one though.

What are Private Messages?

Private messages allow you to talk to another user at hArtists in private. They are also used for various types of notifications. You can view your private messages by clicking on the link located on the top right of every page.
