You can request read receipts for private messages by clicking on "Request read receipt" in the "Advanced Settings" menu when composing a private message. You'll only receive one if the recipient agrees to send you one though.

Can I Restore Deleted Private Messages?

You can restore messages in your "Trash" folder by dragging them into another folder. Once you delete messages from that folder though, they are gone forever and can't be restored. Please note that the "Trash" folder is automatically emptied every 30 days.
